Wake up inside a working coffee estate in the Western Ghats
Starting at
₹1,600 per night
Good Earth Homestay is a family-run homestay in Chikmagalur, set inside a working arabica coffee estate in the Western Ghats of Karnataka. Rooms come with all meals, an estate walk and a bonfire most evenings. It suits couples and small families who want a quiet plantation stay within reach of Mullayanagiri, Baba Budangiri and the Chikmagalur trekking routes — booked direct, with no agent in between.
Good Earth is a homestay in the older sense of the word: you stay in someone's home, on their estate, and eat what the kitchen is cooking that day. The coffee blocks begin a few steps from the verandah and run to the boundary, and the estate is worked year-round rather than kept for show.
Mornings are quiet and often misted in. Filter coffee arrives before anyone asks for it, and breakfast is whatever the kitchen has decided on — akki rotti, dosa, occasionally kadubu if there is time. Lunch and dinner are Malnad-style and served at one long table.
The estate walk is the reason most people come. The family will take you out through the arabica and the pepper vines, explain the harvest cycle without turning it into a lecture, and stop at the spots on the property that are worth stopping at.
By evening the bonfire is lit. There is no bar and no entertainment programme, and the guests who come back are the ones who understood that was the point.

“The estate walk on the first morning was worth the whole drive. We ate at the same table as the family for three days and rebooked before we left.”
Yes. The rate covers breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus estate coffee through the day. Meals are Malnad-style, home-cooked and served at fixed hours at one shared table. Tell us about any dietary needs when you book and the kitchen will work around them.
It is a short drive from Chikmagalur town, inside a working coffee estate on the Mullayanagiri road. From Bengaluru the drive is roughly 245 km and takes about five and a half hours via NH75 and Hassan.
The morning estate walk is included and guided by the family. The longer full-estate trek up into the Ghats is charged separately at ₹1,200 per group and needs to be booked the night before.
Yes. It is a family home and children are welcome. Children under 5 stay free sharing existing bedding. There is no pool and the estate has uneven ground, so younger children need an eye kept on them outdoors.
Pets are allowed on prior request — mention it when you enquire so the family can confirm which room works best.
October to February is the most comfortable, with cool mornings and clear views. The monsoon between June and September is green and dramatic but the estate paths get slippery. Carry warm layers between November and February.
Yes — that is the point. Rates and availability here are the property's own. Send an enquiry with your dates and room preference and the host confirms directly.
